Great article Tony. As you put it, especially at the younger ages, the coach is not only coaching your child's playing but also helping him or her in becoming a better person. It's always a great feeling to see a player you coached 8-10 years later and they still remember not only the games but also the relationship with teammates and you as a coach
Another great read, Tony. I can still recall vividly the words and tones of both good and poor coaches during my youth. It’s something i keep in mind whenever I’m around young players and do my best to have positive words stick in their brains for their lifetime, lol. Glad to hear you got Alex surrounded my great group of men — it’s something that will benefit him for decades.
Great post! It shows how great coaches can show up anywhere, at any level. Our middle daughter's father-in-law was a fantastic coach who worked with 11- 12-year-olds in one city's youth program for over 30 years. Could have easily moved up . . . but just loved working with kids that age in his hometown. Glad you found a good program for Alex!
Thanks, Coach! Great points. So many exceptional coaches out there helping young kids find their way. My dad loved coaching so much he coached flag football for little dudes for two seasons when my brother was in high school and I was in college.
Nope, coaching a 10U (rec) baseball game, 11:50 first pitch. I’ll get some Lions watching in after in between that game and 9U travel practice at 4:30. My kid can’t get enough of it. I’ve told him he’s limited to one inning mound appearances this fall. He’s not thrilled about the concept, but he’s 8 and we’re looking out for the 13-year old version of himself.

Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, Ron! Agreed, so much of coaching is character building.

Thank you, Jason! We’ve been pretty fortunate in the coaching department thus far.

That’s so cool. I have a hunch you might be doing that some day. Maybe for your grandkids!
Hope you enjoyed your trip up here to the Detroit area! I’ll be hitting the field in two hours!
Lions game? Alex and I will be there, too.
Go Lions!!

Enjoy the game! Should be a good one!
